We are a world of contrasts…young and old, contemporary and traditional, relaxed and high energy! Those that study design trends know we are in a time of many contrasts. Current colors trends offer both bright accents and muted neutrals. Finishes can be glossy, pearlized or matte. How do you sort out all these options to find your own style?

The answer is that contrast or conflict in color and in life can force us to look at ideas and solutions that maybe uneasy or unsettling at first, but also show us new ideas for colors and color combinations that appeal. Diamond Vogel’s 2011 Spring Color palette offers contrasts from neutral earthtones paired with deep jewel accents to youthful brights. Add an accent color to your room of neutrals to re-discover the space’s energy hidden. Dark wall colors speak of confidence and are an inexpensive way to add new life to a room. Blue continues to influence many of the colors on our Spring palette and helps us find balance and energy at home. Soft hand-dyed colors influence many of the muted colors. Vibrate accents add a youthful feel, but are toned down slightly to be livable and comfortable. Watch for accessories with heavy texture like shaggy carpets and pillows, knobby knits and cut velvets. Also watch for checks and plaids to make a comeback to your home, they’re a timeless print and offer a comfortable change from the large scale prints of today. These trends come from a desire for vintage looks that are laid back, easy and fun.
