Cold Weather Painting

During the fall or spring, the cooler day time temperatures make painting exteriors much easier but make sure you're preparing for the night chill.  Exterior latex paint requires minimum temperatures to correctly dry and form the proper film.  For most exterior latex paint, a minimum temperature of 50 degrees must be maintained during application and for eight hours after painting.  In many areas this becomes difficult during the spring or fall with night temperatures sometimes plunging to 40 degrees.

Diamond Vogel specially formulated our Durango Acrylic Latex Exterior Finish, Palisade Ultra Premium Exterior Acrylic Latex, and EverCryl Exterior Acrylic Latex Finishes to extend the painting season. Durango Acrylic Latex Exterior Finish, Palisade Ultra Premium Exterior Acrylic Latex, and EverCryl Exterior Acrylic Latex Finishes will properly dry and perform as expected, if a minimum temperature of 35 degrees is maintained during application and for at least 24 hours after painting is completed, allowing you to paint deeper into the fall season.

Painting in the fall can also lead to challenges in the morning, as the cooler morning temperatures bring dew points closer to the actual temperature.  Always, paint should only be applied when air temperatures are 5 degrees above the dew point.

The fall is a great time of year to finish up your exterior painting if you keep a careful eye on the temperatures and make sure to maintain the minimum temperature recommended on the label.
