Environmental Health and Safety Intern

About the role: We are seeking an enthusiastic EHS Intern to join our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team for the summer. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for students majoring in Environmental Health Science, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, or Industrial Hygiene to gain practical experience in a professional EHS setting.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop Training Materials: Create and establish contractor safety training materials and processes for Sheboygan Falls. Complete training as needed for MF and Germantown.

  • Program Writing: Update and format master forms lists, converting documentation and regularly used forms to DV edition.

  • File Organization: Help organize files in JTE and on EHS team sites to ensure compliance with RMP/PSM standards.

  • Coordinate Contractor Work: Assist with coordinating contractor activities in line with the PSM Program.

  • SWPPP Inspections: Conduct inspections related to Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).

  • Obsolete Material Project: Collaborate on waste disposal operations, receive RCRA training, manage waste loads, and coordinate shipments.

  • Update LOTO Procedures: Reformat and affix Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to equipment.

  • Safety Inspections: Create forms and conduct monthly safety inspections for MF, Germantown DC, and Sheboygan. Complete inspections monthly.

  • Eyewash Station Inspections: Perform weekly inspections of eyewash stations.

  • Hazardous Waste Inspections: Conduct weekly inspections and communicate discrepancies to supervisors.

  • Ladder Inspections: Perform monthly ladder inspections.

  • Spill Kit Inspections: Inspect and order supplies for spill kits monthly.

  • EHS Insight: Log information and assist in developing the EHS Insight database.

  • Paperwork Filing: Assist with filing and organizing paperwork.

 

What skills and experience you’ll need:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Health Science, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, or Industrial Hygiene.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Basic understanding of EHS principles and practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

The starting pay for this position is $17.00 per hour.
