Regulatory Affairs Specialist I (Entry Level)

We are seeking a motivated Regulatory Affairs Specialist I to support product compliance and stewardship initiatives for paint and coatings at our Orange City, IA, location. This entry-level role is integral to ensuring global regulatory compliance, supporting product safety, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in regulatory compliance within the coatings industry, as well as the ability to analyze technical data, collaborate across teams, and contribute to new product development. 
 
Key Responsibilities 
 
Product Regulatory Affairs & Compliance: 
- Create and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for finished goods. 
- Review and validate product labels to ensure compliance. 
- Ensure compliance with chemical regulations and support adherence to coatings-specific regulations.
- Assist in preparing regulatory filings, including VOC compliance reports and product registrations. 
 
Product Stewardship: 
- Collaborate with R&D to evaluate raw materials and formulations for regulatory compliance; provide regulatory guidance during new product development. 
- Maintain chemical inventory data, ensuring accurate classification and documentation.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries from customers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.
 
Documentation, Reporting, & Training: 
- Maintain comprehensive regulatory files and submit regulatory reports and filings. 
- Support internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance across product lines. 
- Stay updated on emerging regulatory trends and chemical safety guidelines; participate in training programs to enhance expertise.
 
Skills and Qualifications 

- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or 5+ years of coating experience in a lab environment or related field. 
- Experience in regulatory compliance, product stewardship, or coatings industry quality assurance is desired, but not required. 
- Familiarity with SDS authoring tools, chemical inventory management, or regulatory submissions is a plus. 
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements from OSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, NFPA, and other federal and state regulationsproficiency in managing compliance with VOC, GHS, REACH, and other relevant regulations. 
- Foundational knowledge of chemical properties, formulations, and regulatory frameworks specific to coatings.
